Timothy Jensen, Executive Chef, Professor
Chef Tim Jensen began his culinary career in high school working at a Summer Camp and full-service restaurant in Okoboji. From there he went on to work in various arenas of the industry including restaurants, hotels, catering, corporate research and development, and an assisted living facility.
Tim is a proud 2011 graduate of the Iowa Culinary Institute. He began teaching as an Adjunct professor for the program in 2016. In 2021, he became a full-time instructor.
Tim has gained a great deal of culinary experience, as well as experience in other areas of the hospitality industry. He spent five years at The Sheraton in West Des Moines first as an Assistant Front Office Manager and then moving into a Sous Chef position. At the Sheraton he managed 20,000 sqft of convention space and served both public and private catering events as well as managing the restaurant on site. He then moved on to a role as the Executive Chef of Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel managing over 12,000 sqft of event space including two restaurants and private catering events. After his experience at the Savery, he moved into the role of Culinary Coordinator for Edencrest Green Meadows Assisted Living Community. There he planned meals and managed the kitchen for residents in the community. In 2018 he became a Research and Development Chef for Mom’s Meals in Ankeny, where he developed menus and meals that were shipped all over the United States at a rate of over 1,000,000 meals per week.
In his spare time, Chef Tim loves spending time with his family, mowing, and constantly finding new projects to start.
