HiSET Requirements
HiSET students of all ages must be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.
Eligibility Documents
IMPORTANT – due to recent federal changes, to register for HiSET classes, students must provide eligibility documentation.
Accepted documents include:
- Real ID (ID with gold star in the right corner)
- US Passport, US Passport Card, Naturalization Certificate
- US Birth Certificate
- Green Card (Form I-551)
- I-94 form with code “RE” + photo ID
- I-94 form with code “AS” + photo ID
- I-94 form marked “Parole”, valid for greater than or equal to one year + photo ID
- USCIS Notice/Letter Of Approval + photo ID
- Prima Facie Determination + photo ID

Other Required Documentation:
If you are 18 years old:
- Present an official statement from your high school confirming that you are no longer enrolled.
- Present a copy of your most recent high school transcript for verification of graduation date.
- Be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.
If you are 17 years old:
- Present an official statement from your high school confirming that you are no longer enrolled or a letter from a government-sponsored program for out-of-school youth.
- Present a copy of your most recent high school transcript for verification of graduation date.
- Present a note of consent from a parent or guardian (except those who are married, divorced, or have a dependent).
- Be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.
If you are 16 years old:
You must present a copy of your court order. If you do not have a court order, please contact our program and we will help you determine your options!
If you are Home Schooled:
- If you are 17 years old, you will need a letter from a parent stating that your education is home-based.
- If no transcript is provided, the diploma is issued at age 18.
- Be prepared to present a valid government-issued picture ID (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport) at each official testing session.
Diplomas:
- Diplomas and transcripts are issued to students through DiplomaSender.com. Upon the first request, students are issued these documents free of charge. Subsequent requests will cost $15/document.
- Students who successfully complete their 5 official tests prior to turning 18 will be awarded their diploma with their graduating class.
