Don't Cancel That Class!
Overview
Our college community is a valuable resource for experience and expertise. This initiative seeks to make presentations about college life, learning support services, mental health, and supplemental instruction available across the district.
While individual campuses and programs have worked to fill individual needs, our goal is to increase access to these resources. We believe that creating a centralized list of presentation titles and descriptions, and an electronic request form will make it possible for more instructors and students to also benefit from the wealth of knowledge at DMACC.
Don’t Cancel That Class provides another option (not a requirement), in addition to substitute teachers, in the event of a planned absence. By linking presentations to course competencies and DMACC Collegewide Outcomes, each presentation can provide students useful supplementary information, an engaging departure from a unit, or time to reflect and think ahead.

Request a Presenter
Faculty can request presenters through a centralized form. This form will be routed to the presenter and accepted based on their availability. Afterward, you’ll receive a confirmation message. We ask that you include the following information to help us communicate with presenters and note the value added for each presentation:
- Your contact information
- Course information and modality
- Date, start, and end time for the presentation (two-week notice is required)
- Top two presentation choices
- Indicate communication plan for students
- Describe connection to at least one course competency or Collegewide Outcome
The form will require you to first select the presenter. Presenter names can be found in the “View Presentations" button above.

Faculty
While most of our current presentations are from advisors, specialists, librarians, and counselors, we encourage faculty to get involved as well. Perhaps your course content is easily transferable to other courses, or you offer supplemental instruction that removes barriers for first-time college students and serves as an update for returning students.
Please contact Erica Spiller to share your presentation idea and discuss your availability. We’ll connect with Teaching & Learning to ensure you are credited institution building.
