Video Production, AAS
The Video Production AAS program is designed to prepare students for employment as video producers, videographers, camera operators, grips/electricians, sound mixers, editors and motion graphic designers. Students gain basic and advanced knowledge in video production for corporate videos, commercials, training videos, narratives, documentaries, music videos, news videography, video editing, motion graphics, and sound recording, editing and design. Students gain a broad understanding of standard industry techniques while developing your own personal style. Current industry state-of-the-art equipment, software and techniques are utilized with a large emphasis on hands-on experience. Students also learn to communicate with customers, fellow students and consider social and environmental issues in the context of their work.

Program Graduation Requirements
To earn a Video Production, AAS, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Students are required to produce a resume, production reel and completed videos of their work that demonstrates their ability to conceptualize and produce a variety of creative and effective videos.

- Editing, motion graphics, music recording and mixing, sound design and color correction on video and audio projects.

- Must be ready and willing to collaborate and work with a diverse group of people.

Program Competencies
- Describe how to create a message and script, complete the pre-production steps and how to work with clients to develop video projects that meets the client's goals
- Demonstrate various camera equipment, accessories, and settings used for video production assignments and proper camera principles for composition and effective shots
- Describe various types of production lighting instruments and their proper use in different production situations, including diffusion, direct, bounced, key, fill, various color temperatures, and backlight
- Demonstrate various types of audio recording equipment, including microphones, digital mixers, and recorders - both wired and wireless and the proper audio recording techniques to acquire clean dialogue and natural sounds on set, outside, and on location
- Describe non-linear editing software and how to edit, create effects, create graphics, mix sound, and color correct the video to achieve maximum storytelling and messaging impact
- Demonstrate the use of Photoshop and how to create graphics, text, and design elements, including creating layers, manipulating images, creating graphic overlays, and exporting TIFF and JPEG images
- Analyze the process of determining the story by creating the central message using character and dialogue development and evaluating good storytelling
- Describe how to visualize the action through storyboarding
- Demonstrate audio recording using proper microphones, placement and recording software and techniques, Voice Over recording, and sound design for video production
- Describe how to work with clients to develop video projects that meets the client's goals. Describe how to communicate and persuade clients to make an effective video for them
- Demonstrate the multi-step process of "workflow" from pre-production through production and post-production while working on video production assignments in class and on actual set locations
- Describe non-linear editing software using proven industry techniques and how to import, edit, create transitions and add effects to the video and audio files to achieve maximum storytelling and messaging impact
- Demonstrate creating graphics, mixing audio and color correcting video using the film and TV industry software, hardware and techniques

Video Production, Certificate
The Video Production certificate is designed for individuals with no prior video production experience, who wish to gain a basic understanding of video and software skills used in the video production industry.
The courses in this certificate are the building blocks needed to provide a solid foundation, preparing a student to enter the world of video production.

- Describe and demonstrate the multi-step process of "workflow" from the pre-production through production and post-production while working on video production assignments in studio and on location
- Describe camera equipment and accessories used for video production assignments and demonstrate the appropriate use of the camera controls on various video and DSLR digital cameras
- Demonstrate principles of rule-of-thirds, composition, backgrounds and setting a mood and techniques including movement, depth of field and settings (including ISO, F-stop, and zoom)
- Describe various types of lighting instruments and their proper use in different production situations, including safety, positioning and power requirements
- Describe various qualities of light and be able to recognize, produce, and control various lighting conditions including - diffused, direct, bounced, key, fill, various color temperatures and back light
- Describe various types of audio recording equipment including microphones, digital mixers and recorders - both wired and wireless
- Demonstrate proper audio recording techniques using various audio equipment to acquire clean dialogue and natural sounds on set, outside and on location
- Describe non-linear editing software and how to import, edit, transition between clips, and add effects and color correct the video and audio files in order to achieve maximum storytelling and messaging impact
- Demonstrate creating a sound design for video productions using dialogue, sound effects and music using sound editing software
- Describe how to create a message and develop an outline and script from that message. Describe developing characters, story lines and visualizing the shoot process through storyboarding
- Demonstrate how to work with clients and fellow students to develop video projects that meets the client's goals. Describe how to communicate and persuade clients to make an effective video for them
- Demonstrate creating still and motion graphics, text and creative visual effects to enhance videos
