DMACC's National Crime Victims' Rights Week
How Would You Help? Options, Services, & Hope for Crime Survivors
The 2024 theme asks us - friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, community
leaders, victim service providers, criminal justice practitioners, and health professionals
- how we can help crime victims. Are you prepared if someone confides in you about
a victimization? Is your organization victim-centered and trauma informed? Are you
familiar with the services available in your community?
This year's theme is a call-to-action for us all to create safe environments for crime
victimsto share what happened to them. By doing so, we're able to offer support, options
for life-saving services, and, most importantly, hope.

Description: Cari Farver disappeared in November 2012. For over three years, though no one sees Cari or hears her voice, she is everywhere online. A dangerous criminal continues to stalk, vandalize, and threaten – all in Cari's name – but the case will grow cold before it can be solved. This presentation details a 21st century investigation and goes beyond the plot of the Netflix documentary, Lover, Stalker, Killer, to address the dangers that accompany the many benefits of an always-on world, as well as how law enforcement works for victims in these changing times.
Presenter: Special Deputy Anthony Kava is a life-long hacker, digital forensics examiner, cyber-crime investigator, and computer security nerd. He joined Pottawattamie County's IT Department in 2003. In 2009, Kava was sworn in as a Special Deputy and assigned to the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He transferred to work full-time for the Sheriff's Office in 2017. Dep. Kava holds multiple certifications, mentors students to be hackers for good, and enjoys long walks on the dark web.
