New Orleans Themed Bash Planned For Des Moines

Des Mardi event is an important fundraiser for local youth employment and skill building.

WHO:

The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, in association with DMACC and Broadlawns Medical Center, are hosting des Mardi to raise money to support skill building experience and employment opportunities for local youth.

WHAT:

This year’s New Orleans themed des Mardi event will feature the tastes and sounds of the Big Easy in the elegant surroundings of the World Food Prize building. The Frenchman Street All-Stars, from New Orleans will be the featured entertainment.des Mardi is Des Moines’ version of Mardi Gras, a holiday that features elaborate parades, events and balls.

7 p.m.

WHY:

des Mardi is the largest fundraising event for the Evelyn K. Davis’ annual Summer Youth Experience Program. The 10 week experience provides local youth with professional skill building and employment experience. Participants leave the program having earned income, have the opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) and are empowered with experience they can use in education and future employment.

Employers gain experience working with young people, establish a pipeline for future employees, have the ability to better diversify their workforce and benefit from efforts to improve Greater Des Moines.
