​We offer three Jazz Classes on the DMACC Ankeny Campus:

Jazz History and Appreciation (MUS 205 - 3 elective credits)

This course is a survey of the development of American jazz from the late 19th century to the present, with emphasis on its ethnic origins, cities where jazz developed, styles that evolved, and the influential composers and performers who created the various jazz styles.
Local Jazz Musician Scott Davis will lead this course.

DMACC Vocal Jazz Ensemble (MUSI 503-100, Continuing Education)

This ensemble rehearses Monday evening from 5:15 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. on the Ankeny Campus is Bldg. 5, Room 41. This is a DMACC Continuing Education course and does not carry regular academic credit, therefore its cost is less than an academic credit bearing course. It is expected that persons who register for this ensemble are experienced singers and it is preferred that they have prior jazz performance experience.

DMACC Instrumental Jazz Ensemble (MUS 502-100, Continuing Education)

This ensemble rehearses Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on the Ankeny Campus is Bldg. 5, Room 41. This is a DMACC Continuing Education course and does not carry regular academic credit, therefore its cost is less than an academic credit bearing course. It is expected that persons who register for this ensemble are relatively advanced players and it is preferred that they have prior jazz performance experience. The DMACC Instrumental Jazz Ensemble is directed by Scott Davis, who also teaches Jazz History and Appreciation, MUS 205.
