Summer Scholars Award

The SUMMER SCHOLARS AWARD is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the importance and viability of personal commitment and diversity in a democratic society through service and scholarship. The Award recognizes deserving students who demonstrate scholastic ability, leadership, character, diversity, and the potential to be future leaders.

Prize

One free 3-credit hour face to face Summer semester course plus $100 for books will be awarded to six students throughout DMACC campuses: Ankeny, Boone, Carroll, Newton, Urban and West, as well as the Learning Centers.

Students must be full time as of Spring semester 2018.

How to Apply

There are three requirements: Students must:

  1. fill out the application
  2. write a 500 word essay based on the prompt below

    Diversity is not limited to race or ethnicity but may also include socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, military experience, non-traditional age, first-generation, etc.

    In 500 words: Discuss how your experience at DMACC has helped you gain insight on diversity—cultural, spiritual, or educational, etc. and why it has been beneficial to you personally.  

    Please include the attached application, but NO NAME on your entry essay. Type all submissions in 12 point font, double-space and EMAIL them to:

  3. Students must have a DMACC faculty member directly email a letter of recommendation (in a Microsoft Word document with the student's last name in the subject line) to: jrschulte1@dmacc.edu
